Offline Farm Day: Slowing Down & Giving Back
On 23rd November, Social Innovation Japan and Kimpax co-hosted Offline Farm Day - a space for people to slow down, reconnect with nature, and give back.
In one day, participants:
🌱 Harvested 100+ daikon & turnips
🧅 Planted 200 onion seedlings
🤝 Connected across generations, including spontaneous conversations with local farmers
🍲 Donated all harvested vegetables to a local Children’s Cafeteria (こども食堂)
But the real impact went far beyond the numbers.
One participant captured the spirit of the day perfectly:
“I touched soil, and it reset my entire mindset :) When was the last time you touched soil with your bare hands?”
For many, stepping away from screens and working with the earth brought a sense of grounding and clarity that had been missing in the rush of daily life. People stayed long after the scheduled end time, talking, reflecting, and rediscovering what community feels like.
Offline Farm Day reminded us that sustainability doesn’t always begin with big strategies. Sometimes it starts with something as simple as soil under your nails, shared purpose, and strangers becoming friends.
A huge thank you to everyone who joined. We look forward to returning in Spring for the onion harvest!
