At SIJ, we understand the complexities of building a business, especially one centered on social impact. It's a path we've walked with optimism and determination, fueled by a belief that we need to do things differently.
Our journey hasn't been without challenges. Like any venture, we've faced the unpredictability of revenue streams (like when we had virtually all of our planned projects and revenues disappear overnight thanks to COVID), and the dilemmas of growing a team. These hurdles are magnified when your mission is to address social and environmental issues that are yet to be solved through traditional business models, requiring creative funding strategies, innovative business models, and collaboration with diverse partners.
We've found great resources along the way (curated list coming soon!), but the most significant support has been from people - mentors, friends, and allies who've shared their wisdom, challenged our thinking, and helped us navigate through tough spots.
This experience inspired us to launch SIJ's coaching program. Our belief is simple: with the right idea and passion, anyone can change the world. But sometimes, a helping hand makes all the difference.

Meet your coaches
Mariko McTier & Robin Takashi Lewis
Hi! 👋 We’re two social entrepreneurs and educators who thrive off working with people to solve problems.
Since 2017, we’ve been building social ventures that have impacted hundreds of thousands of people in Japan and around the world and have run dozens of training programs, workshops, and coaching sessions to help people make the change they want to see in the world.
We’re board members, advisors, mentors, and coaches for impact-driven changemakers working in areas as diverse as education, environment, and social justice, and are lucky to have been featured by the likes of CNN, BBC, Vogue, and Netflix for our work, as well as winning social entrepreneurship awards from prestigious places like MIT Technology Review, Business Insider and Forbes.
We’re all about understanding where people are on their journeys, working out their ideal destination, and then figuring out how we can help them get there. We draw from not only decades of experience but also a broad range of frameworks, models, and tools to make sure that we get where we need to be.

Understanding the diverse financial backgrounds of changemakers, we are piloting a Pay-What-You-Can model. This pilot is our initiative to democratise access to quality coaching for social entrepreneurs and intrapreneurs, regardless of their financial situation.
How It Works
You Decide: After experiencing our coaching, you decide what to pay based on your financial capability and the value you feel you've received.
Guidance Provided: We'll provide suggested pricing tiers as a guide, but the final decision is yours.
Feedback: As part of this pilot, we seek your feedback to help us refine and improve this model.
